Donald W. Kirk, Jr. (1921-2012)
Don Kirk received a B.S. degree in architectural engineering from the University of Texas at Austin in 1943. Don started his own structural engineering firm in 1956, which became Don W. Kirk, Architect-Engineer in 1960, and later became Kirk, Voich and Gist, Architect-Engineer.
In 1965, Don Kirk designed a condominium complex in Aspen, 809 S. Aspen, The Shadow Mountain Condominiums, for a Fort Worth client, Charles Haws of Haws & Garrett General Contractors, Inc. Haws was the contractor for Lawrence Halperin’s Heritage Plaza in Fort Worth, a “marvel of modernism” according to the Cultural Landscape Foundation.
He was a registered architect in Texas and six other states, and a registered professional engineer in Texas and 13 other states. Don was a member of National Society of Professional Engineers, American Institute of Architects and local and state affiliates of those organizations. He was invested into the Institute’s College of Fellows in 1988.
