Starting in the late 1950s, West End Bauhaus modernist houses appeared, their compact rectangular shapes in keeping with the scale of its modest Victorian cottages. In 1957, Bayer designed a sleek one-story, L-shaped, flat-roofed, cinder block (now stuccoed) residence at 240 Lake Avenue, overlooking Hallam Lake.
